Mezzo-soprano Alice Coote, equally famed on the great operatic stages as in concert and recital, has been named the ‘superlative British Mezzo’ (San Francisco Chronicle). The recital platform is central to her musical life, and she performs throughout the UK, Europe and the US, including a former Wigmore Hall residency. Joining Alice is ‘that peerless song accompanist’ (The Daily Telegraph), Graham Johnson, who has performed with the world’s leading recitalists, has recorded extensively for Hyperion Records, is Senior Professor of Accompaniment at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and in 2013 was awarded the Wigmore Medal.

For this recital of Mahler’s great song cycles, Alice Coote has invited two mezzo-sopranos from the new generation, Marta Fontanals-Simmons and Fleur Barron, to join her. Alongside pianist Graham Johnson, Marta Fontanals-Simmons will perform Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, and Fleur Barron will perform Kindertotenlieder. After the interval Alice Coote and Graham Johnson perform Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder.
