A mixed concert of operatic arias and art song, with solo piano performances by Herbert MacFarren, who studied at the Royal Academy of Music and enjoyed several successful years as a soloist before forming a chamber ensemble, with whom he would tour America in the 1920s.

The four singers were all relative newcomers to the London concert scene; Hilda Wilson had made one or two appearances at the Promenade Concerts in the 1890s, while Aline May had recently given a recital at St. James's Hall, where a review described her as having ‘a fresh voice of pleasant quality and considerable power’.

Baritone Arthur Oswald would go on to teach at the Royal Academy of Music, where his students included Frederick Ranalow.
