Here Ravel is complemented by predecessors Bach (in an 1893 transcription by Ferruccio Busoni, who made a substantial number of Bach editions and arrangements) and Chopin, plus a rarity by the Russian composer and pianist Nicolas Medtner (1880-1951), who spent the last 15 years of his life in London but whose first cycle of Forgotten Melodies was composed in Germany between 1919 and 1922; we hear the first of seven individual pieces from the set.

      • Partita No. 2 in D minor for solo violin BWV1004
        • (arranged by Ferruccio Busoni)
  • Maurice Ravel (1875-1937)
      • Pavane pour une infante défunte
  • Fryderyk Chopin (1810-1849)
      • Funeral March Op. 35

  • Nicolas Medtner (1880-1951)
