Luis de Briceño, active around 1610–30, spread the Spanish guitar’s popularity beyond its homeland. He made his name in France with a collection of pieces intended for students of guitar.

Le Poème Harmonique and Vincent Dumestre have recorded Briceño’s works for the Alpha label and continue to explore them within the context of early seventeenth-century Spanish music, offering vivid instrumental arrangements of works that capture the vitality and verve of popular dances, villancicos and romances.
