‘Fretwork came to me with a proposition which I considered for about half a second before accepting – to create a piece for them about Francis Drake’s circumnavigation of the world in 1577–80’, recalls Orlando Gough.

Terra Incognita, or The World Encompassed, the composer’s rich response to Fretwork’s call, combines original composition and existing repertoire of the period, as part of a dramatic reflection on Drake, the music of his time and the eternal spirit of musical adventure.
