A former BBC Young Musician of the Year and recipient of a Classical Brit, the British cellist has championed much new music as well as winning a high reputation as an exponent of the standard repertoire for his instrument. He gave the première performance of Joseph Phibbs’s Sonata last September, and also includes a rarity in the shape of William Sterndale Bennett’s Sonata Duo, written in 1852 for the great cellist Alfredo Piatti.
