The Canadian soprano Hope Morgan was a student of Mathilde Marchesi and had made her WIgmore Hall debut earlier in 1901, alongside violinist Dettmar Dressel, also returning in this evening concert and performing a piece by his teacher August Wilhelmj. They were joined by Kathleen Purcell, who had studied with John Thomas, composer and harpist to Queen Victoria (whose piece The Spinning Wheel she played here), and by a group of pupils of the voice coach Eugenie Joachim, niece of the famous violinist.

It was common practice of the time for composers to take the stage solely to accompany or conduct their own works. The main accompanist for this recital was Hamilton Harty (aided by Aida Blackmore), but there were also appearances by Henry Gibson, Guy d'Hardelot and the Hungarian composer and inventor Emanuel Moór, two of whose songs were receiving their first performance in England.
