The English tenor has achieved the highest fame as an interpreter of Lieder and especially of the songs of Schubert, and his partnership with the German pianist has been much celebrated. Of Schubert’s songs, Lars Vogt picks out Einsamkeit as a hidden gem. ‘What an incredible attempt’, he has said, ‘at describing all the emotional factors of life in one work!’
