Kelley Cole studied in Berlin and built his career around oratorio work (with a particular affinity for Elgar) and mixed concerts of the kind in which he appeared here, alongside the Scottish bass David Baxter, violinist Marian Jay and the pianist and composer of light music Waddington Cooke.

Cole was known for his performances of rarely-heard art song, reflected in the group at the end of this afternoon concert which included songs by the little-known American composer Edna Rosalind Park, and Harold Garstin, who joined him to accompany the piece.
