- Mahan Esfahani harpsichord
A performer of star quality whether playing ancient or modern works – some of them newly commissioned by him – and a musician of strikingly broad intellectual interests, as well as a presenter with sometimes challenging but always thoughtfully considered opinions, the Iranian-American musician has raised his chosen instrument to a new level of public consciousness. Of one of his Bach interpretations, The Scotsman wrote: ‘Esfahani’s Goldbergs were a deeply human experience, brimming with humour and wit, cool objectivity, deep tragedy and startling joy.’
This concert will conclude with Mahan Esfahani being awarded the Wigmore Hall Medal.
