Maximilian Schmitt and Gerold Huber explore the breadth of Brahms’s song-writing art in their recital’s first half, embracing everything from austere reflections on happiness lost to the tender lyricism of ‘Es schauen die Blumen’.

Two sublime songs by Hindemith preface a second half devoted to ten of Schubert’s best-known vocal works, including settings of Shakespeare, Rückert, Hölty and Mayrhofer.
