  • Sandra Droucker piano* *Wigmore Hall Debut

Born in Saint Petersburg in 1875, Sandra Droucker studied with Anton Rubinstein at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, making her debut in 1894 before embarking on a tour of Europe. Well-received in Berlin, she made her home there and took up a teaching career alongside her work as a concert pianist, as well as composing a few piano works including some pieces for children.

Her Wigmore Hall debut was the first of two afternoon concerts, and spanned several centuries of keyboard music, from Couperin and Rameau to contemporary Etudes by Skryabin and Felix Blumenfeld. It came a few days before the first appearance here by the Austrian pianist Gottfried Galston, whom she would go on to marry in 1910.
