- The Endellion String Quartet
Haydn, Bartók and Beethoven have formed the backbone of the Endellion’s repertoire since its formation in 1979. Haydn’s Op. 76 No. 1 is among his greatest quartets and has long been an Endellion favourite, not least for the unsurpassed depth of feeling of its slow movement. Bartók’s Third Quartet is his most densely compact and intense, hugely creative and communicative. Op. 127 is the first of Beethoven’s great late quartets. This one is supremely and warmly lyrical, and it exemplifies the extraordinary freedom of Beethoven’s unmatched imagination and the profundity of his feelings.
