  • The Jubilee String Quartet

The ensemble is named after the Jubilee Line on the London Underground, which all four members lived on in 2006 when the quartet was formed. The six string quartets Op. 20 by Haydn are among the works that earned the composer his moniker as ‘the father of the string quartet’. Composed in 1772, they are considered a milestone in the history of composition; in them, Haydn develops compositional techniques that were to define the medium for the next 200 years. Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in A minor was composed when he was just 18 years old and is one of earliest and most significant examples of cyclic form in music.

  • Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)
      • String Quartet in C Op. 20 No. 2
  • Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)
      • String Quartet No. 2 in A minor Op. 13
