  • Walter Ford voice* *Wigmore Hall Debut
  • Ella Spràvka piano
  • Henry R. Bird accompanist

A folk song collector and key member of the Folk Song Society alongside Lucy Broadwood and Vaughan Williams, Walter Ford made his Wigmore Hall debut with this recital charting the history of German song, from anonymous melodies of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries to selections from Winterreise and Schwanengesang. It was the first of two such concerts, the second taking place in December and featuring works by Weber, Schumann and Brahms. Historical concerts of this kind were at the time somewhat unusual, although in the following decades the Wigmore Hall stage would also see retrospectives of English, Italian, Russian and Scandinavian song.
