To explore the string quartets of Joseph Haydn is to witness the birth of the genre as we know it and to trace its development to the height of invention.
During his time at Esterházy estate, Haydn’s quartets are associated with the freedom he enjoyed in Vienna and the friendships he formed there, most famously with Mozart.
Delve into these works, which have never been surpassed in their intimacy of interaction between four equal yet independent instruments, with composer Julian Philips alongside pianist Laura Roberts, guest speakers, and performers from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
