'I am honored to be the Honorary Patron of American Friends of Wigmore Hall. I am thrilled to represent what is undoubtedly the leading international venue for song and chamber music and look forward to a long association as an ambassador for the Hall's American Friends.'Joyce DiDonato, Honorary Patron of American Friends of Wigmore Hall
American Friends of Wigmore Hall was set up to strengthen classical music ties between the UK and the US.
Funded by its membership, the organization supports American artists and artistic projects on both sides of the Atlantic, with a preference for those where there is a connection with Wigmore Hall.
Currently American Friends is committed to supporting Wigmore Hall’s broadcasts which are reaching audiences in the US and all around the world.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, American Friends of Wigmore Hall was able to provide essential financial support for concerts throughout 2020 and will continue to do so in 2021.
Our support for Wigmore Hall is helping to ensure that artists can perform and are paid their full fees even if there is no audience in the Hall. There have been well over 200 broadcasts in the last 12 months, viewed by thousands (over 6 million plus views to date) – this has been exceptional during a time when the pandemic has shut down most performing arts venues.
Thanks to you and our grant to Wigmore Hall, we have helped to support 400 plus artists during this pandemic year. Many of you have written to say how appreciated these recitals are, at a time when live music making is much harder to access. We are grateful to you for helping American Friends of Wigmore Hall do what it can to support musicians and audiences everywhere.
‘Your concerts were a tremendous solace and comfort to me during this challenging time. The musicians are wonderful! My husband and I make this donation in support of your ongoing efforts. Thank you and everyone at Wigmore Hall for everything you are doing! The world needs music more than ever.’ August 2020, New Jersey
‘Were I living in the UK, or even in London I would be at your marvellous Hall OFTEN. I am very grateful for your streamed concerts (…) Thank you so very much.’ June 2020, Maine
