Poulenc: The life in the songs

Graham Johnson and Dame Felicity Lott discovered the songs of Poulenc 50 years ago when studying at the Royal Academy of Music.

This fascinating exploration sees Johnson describe his love of the compositions by the 20th century master as ‘a pleasure to sing and a pleasure to play at a time when destruction of tonality seemed almost a given.’ Musical examples are shared throughout, including a Spanish Venetian fantasy Toréador, FP11.
