Morton Feldman’s
Triadic Memories, first performed at the ICA in London in 1981, offers a study in deep listening. This vast work barely rises above a whisper, gently drawing listeners into its kaleidoscopic soundworld of shifting Minimalist textures.
The composer described his score as ‘probably the largest butterfly in captivity’, a wonderful metaphor for one of the most exquisite pieces in the contemporary piano repertoire.
