    Overview

Arnold Schoenberg has often been described as a ‘reluctant revolutionary’, an artist forced by inner creative powers to confront convention and overturn tradition. The innovative musical language of Monteverdi’s madrigals, like Schoenberg’s twelve-note compositions, emerged from their composer’s burning desire to express strong ideas, emotions and feelings in ways never heard before.

Supported by Arts Council England and Wigmore Hall, with associate sponsors Florian Leonhard Fine Violins
