    Overview

    Brahms completed his Op. 51 string quartets duringa productive summer stay in Tutzing, Bavaria in1873, effectively breaking his duck as a stringquartet composer with two works of extraordinaryinvention.

    The Vertavo String Quartet, founded inNorway in 1984, prefaces the A minor quartet’sperformance with the two movements of Haydn’slast adventure in string quartet writing and piecesfrom Dvořák’s lyrical Cypresses.
