    Overview

    Three Viennese classics occupy the Emerson StringQuartet.

    The programme opens with the first ofHaydn’s Op. 76 quartets, marked by the composer’smost popular melodic style. Beethoven’s StringQuartet in F major and Schubert’s String Quartet inG D887, two late masterworks, express everythingfrom gentle comedy to high tragedy.
