Programme

Overview

Embark on a journey through time and space to discover the transformative power of song, and its unique ability to cross borders and times.

Join baritone Marcus Farnsworth, pianist James Baillieu and presenter Jessie Maryon Davies to delve into moments in time, explore how singing can express emotional extremes, and even join in the song adventure yourselves by writing a song for Marcus and James to perform live onstage!

We have created a resource pack full of activities and information you can use with your students before and after the concert. Have a look at the resource pack located here!

The Song Explorers concert links in with the KS2 curriculum in the following ways:

  • play and perform ensemble contexts, using their voices with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression
  • improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the inter-related dimensions of music
  • listen with attention to detail and recall sounds with increasing aural memory
  • appreciate and understand a wide range of high-quality live music drawn from different traditions and from great composers and musicians
  • develop an understanding of the history of music
