Bartók's six string quartetshave been compared to late Beethoven intheir uncompromising inner logic and ruggedbeauty, and are often seen as an intimatemusical diary of his life. His chamber musicwith piano reflects his career as a performer, from the elusive violin sonatas to themuch-loved Contrasts, commissioned byBenny Goodman.
These sessions are hosted by composerJulian Philips with pianist Laura Roberts andstudent performers from the Guildhall Schoolof Music & Drama.
