Marlis Petersen studied piano and flute, making hermark with a series of prize-winning performancesin Germany’s Jugend musiziert competition.

Shediscovered her passion for singing while studyingmusic education in Stuttgart and subsequentlybroadened her artistic horizons with lessons in jazzdance and tap dancing. Her jaw-dropping coloraturacaused a sensation following her operatic debut in1994, while her vocal and stage presence havesince drawn acclaim to roles as diverse as Berg’sLulu, Mozart’s Susanna, Strauss’s Zerbinetta andReimann’s Medea.

This Wigmore Hall recitalsurveys nine Strauss songs and probes the vividpsychological worlds of two landmark song-cycles,Schumann’s Frauenliebe und -leben and WolfgangRihm’s Das Rot.
