Janine Jansen opens her Wigmore Hall series with a recital programmeof great sophistication and nuance.

Poulenc’s Violin Sonata was inspiredby García Lorca’s famous metaphor ‘The guitar makes dreams weep’ andalso by the violin sonatas of Brahms. Szymanowski’s Myths and Prokofiev’sSecond Violin Sonata, creations of the two world wars, harness virtuosityto the expression of poetic musical gestures.
