The Borodin Quartet’s odyssey through thestring quartets of Shostakovich and Beethovencontinues with a shrewd combination ofworks.
Shostakovich’s Ninth String Quartetconfronts anxiety and despair to discover afinal sense of defiance; Beethoven’s first‘Razumovsky’ Quartet, meanwhile, offsetsthe sorrow of its slow movement with ajoyful final hymn of praise.
