Overview
Mendelssohn’s compelling Op. 80, written shortly before his death, is arguably his most intense, troubled and impassioned composition.
It is prefaced here by Haydn’s marvellously genial String Quartet in G and stands in contrast to Sibelius’s ‘Voces Intimae’, a work of symphonic sweep unlike any other work in the quartet literature.
