    Overview

The Tallis Scholars and Peter Phillips have done much torevive interest in two of the greatest of all Renaissancecomposers.

Their programme reveals the contemplativeintensity of sacred works by Heinrich Isaac, who servedthe Medici court in Florence and also under EmperorMaximilian I, and Jean Mouton, a musician at the Frenchcourt of Louis XII and Francis I.

They open with Isaac’suplifting Regina caeli laetare before entering the resonantsoundworld of the Missa de apostolis, a work of mysticpower written for six voices. The concert’s second halfcelebrates the sophistication and vast inventive rangeof the motet as cultivated by Isaac and Mouton.
