    The wreckage of lives lost to Stalin’s purges of the1930s conditions the chilling atmosphere ofShostakovich’s Third String Quartet, written not longafter the end of World War Two.

    The Pacifica Quartetpresents this work of warning in company with theemotional restraint and calm lyricism of Ravel’syouthful String Quartet in F.
