    Echoes of Bach and Handel sound at the openingof The Myrthen Ensemble’s Schubert programme.

    There are traces, too, of Beethoven in the quartet‘Hymne an den Unendlichen’, a rousing setting ofwords by Schiller. The ‘Morgenlied’ and its companion‘Abendlied’, both written on the same day, appearto have been composed in February 1816, whileSchubert was still working as a schoolteacher.
