    Overview

    Named after a Czech composertaught by Janáček andsubsequently murdered inthe Holocaust, the ensemble’sperformances have beendescribed as ‘spellbinding’ due toits ‘total immersion in the music’.Dedicated to the memory of hisfirst wife, Nina, Shostakovich’sSeventh Quartet (1960) precedeshis wartime Second (1941), whichrefers to Jewish folk music.
