This initial instalment comprises thefirst trio from Beethoven’s official Op. 1,published in 1795, and first performed infront of his teacher Haydn at the home ofhis patron Prince Lichnowsky that sameyear. The first of his two trios Op. 70(1809), whose eerie slow movementled the composer’s pupil Carl Czerny tocompare it to the ghost scene in Hamlet,closes the morning programme.
