    Overview

First prize-winners at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in 2017, The Maxwell Quartet’s debut recording on Linn Records was released in March 2019, and has been described as “a new recording from a young ensemble whose fresh, unaffected playing marries technical brilliance with an authentically Haydnesque joie de vivre” (Gramophone). The charismatic Scottish quartet bring fresh readings of late quartets by Haydn and Beethoven to Wigmore Hall, alongside their own trademark Scottish folk music arrangements and Joey Roukens’ “Visions at Sea” (2011), which explores Dutch seafaring journeys in the 17th Century.
