Overview

The Wigmore Soloists made its debut, both as an ensemble and as newly-appointed Wigmore Associate Ensemble, to an empty Wigmore Hall auditorium in January. The group returns now to a live audience with two Hungarian and one German composer. Bartók’s 1938 Contrasts is based on Hungarian and Romanian dance melodies; Reinecke’s Trio was written in 1887 for a ‘striking if little heard combination’ (The Chamber Music Journal); and Dohnányi’s Op. 37 finale contains influences from jazz and ragtime.
