Overview

The Russian-American pianist’s eminence was recognised with his 2010 receipt of a Gilmore Artist Award, which he used to commission new works for the piano repertoire. His own programme is diverse, reflecting wide interests: rare pieces by Debussy sit alongside a group of April Preludes (1937) by the sadly short-lived Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová (1915-40), and a set of folk dances by the Armenian priest-musician Komitas (1869-1935).
