Overview

In the second programme of their traversal of Beethoven’s cello and piano sonatas, the focus is on early and late works, with the very first and the final two examples of the composer’s involvement with the genre, stretching from 1796 to 1815. Though they puzzled his contemporaries, the Op. 102 sonatas are now regarded as the commencement of Beethoven’s final and arguably most profound period; what is believed to be Beethoven’s own arrangement of his Horn Sonata of 1800 is also included.
