Formed in 2008 and based in Zurich, the ensemble whose members come from four different countries has maintained a high reputation in the classical and modern repertoires and won particular praise for its CD of Schoenberg quartets. ‘The great virtue of this disc is in the way [first violin] Ilya Gringolts and his colleagues make Schoenberg’s sometimes taxing language seem so utterly natural,’ wrote Classical Ear. ‘They also have an acute sense of musical colour.’
