The title of Linda Catlin Smith’s 2008 work ‘refers to its slight undulation or floating qualities — a subtle motion or disturbance of the surface, like trailing the hand in water’. Barry says of his string quartet 1998, ‘You could say that a drama is being enacted here which will always be hidden because of the completely enigmatic nature of the sounds.’ Miller’s Leaving was originally part of Warblework, performed earlier.
