Overview

Join Norman Lebrecht for a special event to mark the launch of his latest book Why Beethoven - A Phenomenon in One Hundred Pieces.

Lebrecht contends that without Beethoven, music as we know it wouldn’t exist, and by examining one hundred of the great composer’s works, a portrait emerges of the man behind the music. Lebrecht has been grappling with this icon at the heart of music for his entire life. Who was the irascible, unpredictable, warped genius who stretched to breaking point what music could do?

The author is joined for this event by Alim Beisembayev, winner of First Prize at the 2021 Leeds International Piano Competition, who will perform specially chosen works by Beethoven.

Copies of the new book will be available to purchase on the day.
