Overview
Along with three instrumental virtuosi, the extraordinary American baritone sings the title-role in Hans Werner Henze’s 1970 ‘recital for four musicians’, which tells the true story of the runaway slave Esteban Montejo. Following his escape prior to the ending of slavery in Cuba, Montejo survived until 1973 and told his tale to Cuban author Miguel Barnet.
