Overview
Two highly progressive figures from the Renaissance: the Italian Vicentino (1511-c.1576) invented a microtonal keyboard, while the 14th-century Frenchman Solage was a poet as well as composer. Turkish-born composer and improviser Cenk Ergün describes Celare as ‘a gentle and sparse environment in which simple, transparent harmonies resonate at a hazy intersection of early European and Turkish modal music.’
