The much-loved Swedish mezzo has enjoyed a long and distinguished career on stage as well as in the concert and recital halls, covering a range of repertoire from the Baroque era to new works, all to a degree of excellence achieved by few performing artists. In two events this season she passes her vast knowledge on to a younger generation of singers.
Yuriy Hadzetskyy
Ukrainian baritone Yuriy Hadzetskyy was a member of the International Opera Studio of Opernhaus Zurich from 2019-21, where his roles included Graf Dominik in Strauss’s Arabella in a new production by Robert Carsen conducted by Fabio Luisi, as well as Geisterkind in Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Coraline and Procolo in Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma. This season, he returns to Opernhaus Zürich as Mercutio in Ted Huffman’s new production of Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette under Roberto Forés Veses.
Yuriy Hadzetskyy’s operatic experience outside of Zurich includes his debut in the title role of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Lviv National Opera, the Count in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, Dandini in Rossini’s La Cenerentola at Wrocław Opera, and Barone di Trombonok in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.
Yuriy Hadzetskyy studied at the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy and The Opera Academy Young Talent Development Programme of Teatr Wielki in Warsaw. In 2023, he will participate in Carnegie Hall’s SongStudio programme under the leadership of Renée Fleming.
Aleksandra Dunaeva
Aleksandra Dunaeva is a lyric soprano currently studying at the Royal College of Music with Nicholas Sears, where she is the recipient of the Leonard Marks Memorial Award supported by the Alice Templeton Scholarship. She studied in Italy at the Conservatorio di Musica Nino Rota with Maria Pia Piscitelli, and graduated with distinction as an opera singer from the St Petersburg State Conservatory.
Alexandra Dunaeva made her debut in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas on stage 3 at the Mariinsky Theatre with the Prantum Integrum Orchestra in 2017. From 2018 to 2022 she performed as a soloist at the St Petersburg State Conservatory Opera and Ballet Theatre. In the same year she toured with the Vasilievsky Island Orchestra to Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium. She won First Prize at the Neapolitan Masters competition in Italy and a Special Award at the International Opera Bella Vocal Competition in Russia. Her operatic roles include Musetta in Puccini’s La bohème, Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, and Belinda in Dido and Aeneas.
Arvid Eriksson
Born in 1998, Arvid Eriksson graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm in 2021, where his teachers included Petteri Salomaa and Erik Årman. He also holds a degree in church music. He began his professional career at the age of sixteen, singing with Göteborg Baroque, of which he was also a member until 2022.
Arvid Eriksson has focused on the performance of art song and concert. Recent highlights include performances of Handel's Messiah with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and a tour of Mahler's Rückert Lieder in an arrangement for baritone and piano quartet.
This season, he returned to Berwaldhallen in Stockholm, and performed with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Later this year, he will also make his debuts with Västerås Sinfonietta and Ensemble Correspondances.
Madeline Boreham
Madeline Boreham is currently studying for her Master’s degree as a Scholar at the Royal College of Music, under the tutelage of Patricia Rozario and Caroline Dowdle, and supported by the Josephine Baker Trust.
In 2019, she made her English National Opera debut in Britten’s Noye’s Fludde as part of a collaboration with Theatre Royal Stratford East. Her other opera work includes Diana in Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers and La Princesse in Ravel’s L'enfant et les sortilèges with RCM International Opera Studio. She is currently a Young Artist with Opera Holland Park, playing Mother in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, and will be performing the Countess in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro with Westminster Opera this summer.
In competition, Madeline Boreham was recently awarded the Audrey Strange Memorial Prize for Promising Young Singer at the Royal Overseas League Competition. She has also performed in masterclasses with Brindley Sherratt, Nicky Spence and Sir Thomas Allen.
As a concert soloist, she has performed works by Beethoven, Rossini, Elgar and Mendelssohn and, in 2022, she performed Vaughan Williams’s A Sea Symphony with Adrian Partington and the RCM Symphony Orchestra.
