The second programme’s range runs from 1774 to 1788 – the so-called ‘Sonata semplice’ or ‘Sonata facile’, K545, from the latter year a reminder that amateur pianists can also get a good deal of pleasure from tackling Mozart’s works – plus the 1785 Fantasia, essentially a written-down version of the kind of improvisation at which Mozart excelled.
