Due to illness, Dénes Várjon (piano) is no longer able to take part in the above concert. The concert has therefore been cancelled – there will be no replacement.
Interval
Beethoven occupies an important place in this collaboration with the sought-after Hungarian pianist in the shape of the mighty ‘Kreutzer’ Sonata, dating from 1803. Written in 1928-9, Bartók’s two virtuosic Rhapsodies were dedicated to Joseph Szigeti and Zoltán Székely respectively.
