Overview
In 1949, Shostakovich wrote the Fourth of his eventual 15 string quartets, with the Fifth following in 1952. His friend and colleague Weinberg’s Fourth Quartet is somewhat earlier, dating from 1945, at a period when he was living in Moscow.
