Overview

Emotional extremes and the rising tide of Renaissance humanism shaped the 16th-century madrigal. Philippe Herreweghe and the ensemble he founded 55 years ago unlock the soul-splintering expressive force of Carlo Gesualdo’s Madrigals for five voices, intimate, confessional, experimental pieces first published in 1594.
