Written in 1920 to enliven thefamous Flonzaley Quartet’srepertoire, Stravinsky’s briefConcertino revels in the contrastsand tension between two differentscales.
It prefaces the Pavel HaasQuartet’s exploration of Ravel’sString Quartet in F, an emblemof poise and playfulness, andDvořák’s sonorous ‘viola quintet’,written in the summer of 1893 inSpillville, Iowa.
