The career of the internationally admired soprano Roberta Alexander began in the Netherlands in 1975 in Cimarosa’s La Cambiale di Matrimonio; she would go on to become highly regarded in the Mozartian repertoire, as well as in roles by Puccini, Janáček and in contemporary opera, throughout Europe as well as at the Met, and as a song recitalist of distinction. Here she imparts her knowledge and experience to a new generation of singers.
Manon Ogwen Parry
Manon Ogwen Parry is a sought-after young Welsh soprano who has just finished her undergraduate under the guidance of Marilyn Rees at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. From a young age, Manon has performed as guest soloist with choirs throughout Wales including the Morriston Orpheus, Treorchy, Pendyrus Pontarddulais and Blaenavon Male Voice Choirs. In 2018 she won the Olwen Phillips Scholarship and the Eisteddfod Scholarship for Best Singer of the festival. In the same year she won the Classical section of the South Glamorgan Festival for Young Musicians, in addition to first prize in the Vale of Glamorgan Festival for Young Musicians. In 2019 Manon won the Kathleen Ferrier Junior Scholarship, representing the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. More recently, Manon played the role of Rosalinde in the Guildhall’s Introduction to Opera performance of Die Fledermaus. Manon has been awarded a scholarship to study on the Masters course at the Guildhall in September. Future engagements include representing Wales in Philadelphia, USA in a series of concerts for the Urdd and performing with the Oxford Orpheus in February next year.
Channa Malkin
Soprano Channa Malkin is known for her compelling musical personality and unbridled creativity. She was recently praised by Opera Today for 'her pure and smooth voice, but full of feeling.' She excels in a broad repertoire, from Italian Baroque opera to Mozart and Sephardic chamber music.
Channa debuted at the age of 16 as Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro) at Dutch National Opera. Other opera roles include Despina (Così fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Charite (Cadmus et Hermione), and Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea). As a concert soloist, Channa has worked with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra and Holland Baroque, among others.
In 2021, her second solo album This is not a lullaby was released by TRPTK, including songs by Weinberg, Tavener and her father, Josef Malkin. This season, Channa will perform Mozart concert arias and Lieder by Strauss with the Intercontinental Ensemble, the soprano solo in Mozart’s oratorio Davide penitente at the Philharmonie in Haarlem, a Baroque aria programme with the Joven Orquesta Barroca de Andalucía in Málaga, and make her recital debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Lynda Olivia Nwabudike
Lynda Olivia Nwabudike is a Nigerian soprano currently studying for a Professional Diploma in Vocal Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London under the tutelage of Teresa Cahill.
Lynda recently graduated with a distinction from the Graduate Diploma program at Trinity Laban. She started her music studies in her home country, where she performed a diverse repertoire; this, coupled with her passion for opera, led her to seek further studies in London. She recently performed Mimi (La bohème) and Anna Bolena (Anna Bolena) as part of the Postgraduate Opera Scenes at Trinity and has performed roles such as Despina (Così fan tutte) with the Comic Opera House, Nigeria.
She recently won the Opera Europa Eva Kleinitz Scholarship and was a finalist for the Roy Pleasance Vocal Competition. She is currently a recipient of the Peter Harris Scholarship and the Kathleen Trust Scholarship at Trinity Laban.
Gabriella Noble
Gabriella is a mezzo-soprano and conductor from London, currently studying at Guildhall School of Music & Drama under Samantha Malk. Before embarking on a varied freelance career in singing and conducting she graduated with a First Class degree in Music from Oxford University, where she performed lead roles with New Chamber Opera and the experimental collective Leoe&hyde. She went on to study solo voice ensemble singing under Robert Hollingworth at York University and later under Sasja Hunnego in Amsterdam. Her studies are generously supported by Gillian Laidlaw and the Knight Family Foundation. She is passionate about interdisciplinary arts, and her singing is influenced by her love of poetry, visual art, and theatre.
