Overview

‘A sparky, shape-shifting ensemble of starry young musicians,’ as The Arts Desk has put it, the group led by pianist Tom Poster and violinist Elena Urioste has a commitment to chamber music and to widening its audience. It can call upon a substantial roster of artists to help it achieve its ends. Its first programme focuses on rarely heard French compositions, with the 1927-8 suite for flute, horn and piano by Mel (Mélanie) Bonis (1858-1937) set alongside a 1908 work for voice, flute and piano by flautist, conductor and composer Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941), whose Pagan Evening reflects his passion for antiquity. Berlioz’s The Young Breton Shepherd is a ‘folksong’ he composed in 1833 and whose accompaniment exists in various forms.

This concert is part of the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust ticket scheme, offering free tickets to those aged 8-25
